Gunmen kidnap four in Calabar

Some kidnappers have been reported to have abducted four persons in the last six days in Calabar, Cross River State of Nigeria.
One of the abducted persons is a lecturer at the Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH), Dr Anthony Egbe.
Mr. Egbe was abducted on August 29, 2020 at Asabanka in Akpabuyo.
Another victim was Mr Effiom Asuquo, who was kidnapped on the first day of September.
Also, a yet-to-be-identified Pastor on Atu Street has also disappeared to an unknown location, while another woman who has been identified as Promise Edet, was kidnapped by the gunmen.
Promise Edet was abducted from her house on Thursday, September 3, 2020 on Ibesikpo Street, Calabar South, around 6am.
The incident was then reported at the Mbukpa Police Station, as the DSS and other security agencies were reportedly informed about the situation.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, said the lecturer had been released.
She said, “Dr Egbe, a lecturer attached to CRUTECH who was kidnapped on Saturday, August 29, 2020, at Asabanka Akpabuyo, was released after we raided the area. One suspect who masterminded the kidnap was arrested.”
However, the police command has been said to have arrested about 10 suspected kidnappers and other criminals in the last five days.
The Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Abdulkadir Jimoh mentioned that among those arrested on the waterways by policemen attached to the Marine division, Mfum, Etung LGA, were Cameroonians.
“They kidnapped 11 Cameroonians/Nigerians to their forest in Cameroon before they were apprehended,” he added.
The police said three locally-made guns and five live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
Many people on social media rumoured that there has been a lot of kidnapping and abduction going on in the Cross River State recently. People has shown their excitement and relief knowing that the State Police are not sleeping but always on the look out to go after suspects and find ways to bring the kidnapped persons back to their loved ones.

Ifeanyi Ubah inspects ultra modern UNIZIK Medical/Isolation Center

The Senator representing Anambra South, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah on Wednesday, inspected an ultra modern medical/isolation center that is currently being constructed in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The project which is totally sponsored by Anambra Progressisives, a group convened by Senator Ubah, will after completion, serve as a medical and isolation center for the University community, Ndi Anambra and Nigerians in general. 

Addressing the press after the inspection, Senator Ubah appreciated the Progressisives for their unanimous support towards actualization of the dream. He further thanked the University for its cooperation and assured the public that he will continue to put in his best for their wellbeing. 

In his address, the University's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, FAS commended Senator Ubah for championing the project with the Progressisives. Prof. Esimone who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Fredrick Odibo further urged Senator Ubah and his Progressive Team to continue the patriotic move. According to the Vice-Chancellor, the project is not only a big asset to the Univerty but a huge support to the health sector.

Also speaking, the Director of the University's Medical Center, Prof. Lasbery Asomugha thanked Senator Ubah and the progressives for the project. Prof. Asomugha further said that the project will be a big support to the health sector of the University and Nigeria in general.

Another dignitary at the event, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu appreciated the Progressisives convened by Senator Ubah for being at the forefront of providing adequate health facilities for the country and its citizens. Prof. Ikechebelu who is also the University's Director of Academic Planning further stated that the center is the first project to be completed within a short period in the University and urged the Progressisives to continue with their good works.

The Center which is one of the three projects championed by the Progressisives in Anambra State was started four months ago and is presently near completion.
