Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has decorated Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, as super marshal of Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun corps in Ogun State.

This followed the inauguration of the corps on Thursday.

“Decorating Prof. Wole Soyinka Super Marshall of AMOTEKUN Corps in Ogun State, as Corps is inaugurated, patrol vehicles and Motorbikes commissioned,” Mr Abiodun tweeted.

During the ceremony on Thursday in Abeokuta, the state capital, the governor also inaugurated patrol vehicles and motorcycles for operatives of the Amotekun corps in the state.

Retired commissioner of police David Akinremi was announced as commander of the corps.

The operatives are expected to be deployed to all the 20 LGAs of the state to curb kidnapping, herder-farmer crisis, and banditry.

In 2020, governors of the south-west states established the security outfit to tackle the rising cases of criminality in the region. 

 

Since the incident had happened, his Facebook page has been inaundated with litany of heart-rending and blood-gushing write up that practically emphasised the agony the entire family has been plunged into and psychological trauma the situation has caused them.

The once happy family of seven had just been tragically reduced to a sorrowful and mournful family of five through the death of their two lovely and lively twins that could have been ordinarily avoided if properly managed.

 

According to the man's write up on his Facebook account, the babies were left with their nanny at home while the parents and the remaining siblings were out for their daily routines.

The nanny reportedly left them in the sitting room to watch TV while she went upstairs for something else. After several minutes without her return to the living room, the toddlers managed to get into the compound after fiddling with the gate key.

On getting to the compound, they headed straight to the pool side. One of them was attracted by the wave of the pool and he jumped in. He was overwhelmed by the water level and began struggling to get out.

Seeing his brother in between life and death, the second child decided to try his luck in getting him out, he jumped in again. He suffered the same fate. The two were clutched to each other during the struggle to free themselves from the heavyweight of death.

They died eventually and in a similar manner.

That was how two promising lives were terminated at their primes in a tragic way. A death that could have been avoided in all ramifications if the right things had earlier been done by both the parents and the nanny.

Every parent should learn from this tragic incident that swimming pool is not something to be left opened in a compound where toddlers can access.

It should also serve as a lesson that most nannies are not competent like what they think of them or how they try to please their bosses whenever they are around. Once you are out of their presence, you don't know the kind of life your babies are subjected to.
