Governor Matawalle is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and he won the governorship election for Zamafara State under the party, although through the ruling of the Supreme Court. Recently, Matawalle has been in the news over alleged move to defect from PDP to the ruling APC. Although, that defection move has always been dismissed as mere speculation, but experience over the years has shown that such rumours usually turn out to be true. The latest of such defection rumour that later turned out to be true was the defection of Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State from PDP to APC.

Almost in similar fashion, APC might have gone far in its move to persuade Matawalle to do as Umahi did by joining the ruling party. The latest of such move was the visit of Governor Matawalle by top leaders of the APC which include: Chairman of APC caretaker Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, Chairman of Progressives Governors Forum, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State and Jigawa State Governor, Mohammed Badaru.

Speaking during the visit of APC Governors, Governor Matawalle had lamented that his colleague Governors in PDP have not shown his such gesture by visiting him after that market fire incident in his state not to talk of donating anything to assist him and his people. This author wrote an article on that days ago suggesting that PDP Governor needed to do the needful to avoid losing Matawalle to the APC especially now that he lamented that he and his people have been abandoned by his party at this trying time.

As if the PDP Governors heeded that call, Governor Nyeson Wike of Rivers State and other PDP Governors stormed Zamafara State to visit Matawalle in grand style. Other PDP Governors that went with Wike to visit Matawalle are: Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Darius Ishaku of Taraba, Umar Fintiri of Adamawa and Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto respectively. They showed him sense of belonging and begged him to remain in PDP and reject the pressure to defect to APC.
Wike reminded Governor Matawalle that the same APC wooing him to join them fought took and nail to stop him from becoming the Governor of Zamafara State but PDP gave him the platform to realize that ambition. Wike also described the N50 million donation by APC Governors as ''Greek gift'' aimed at realizing their ulterior motive.
The PDP Governors and Wike might have made some good donations and offered Matawalle some juicy political deals that will entice him to stay back and shelve the defection plans. It is possible that they want to keep those aspects secret.

But, recall that Wike had donated N500 million to Governor Tambuwal to assist market fire victims in his state Sokoto months ago. So, Wike and other PDP Governors know the needful to do to support Matawalle as a way of countering the APC Governors' N50 million donation. With this move by the PDP Governors, they would have convinced Matawalle to reject APC and remain in his current party PDP.

Top APC Members That Could Unite To Take Over Benue State From Ortom's PDP

The 2023 general election is fast approaching and one of the states that APC will want to take over from their closest rival PDP is Benue state, a state in North Central Nigeria.
It could be remembered that Samuel Ortom was once a member of the APC but he has now decamped. Here, we will be talking about top APC members that could unite to take over Benue state from Ortom.
The first is George Akume. George who is now a federal minister under the Buhari's cabinet was once the governor of Benue state for two terms under the the umbrella of the PDP. He decamped to join the APC and he was elected a Senator as well.
Akume is a strong force to reckon with in Benue state politics and if APC wants to take over, them George Akume has to be on board.
The second person is Emmanuel Jime, the man who contested against Ortom still has people who believes in his dream, therefore APC will have to carry him along if they want to win Benue state in the coming Election.
