David Goggins – THE INTERVIEW – Transcript
You have to be willing to suffer to get to the other side. And on the other side of suffering is a whole ‘nother world that people have no idea that it even exists.
Cracked Foundation
So that cracked foundation just kept on getting more and more cracked and throughout the years I developed a stutter. I had a lot of issues with people, social anxiety… I copied all through school… I had learning disability so I cheated a lot going through school, so my foundation continue to get cracked. And when you get to that point in your life and no one is there to really help you out, you have to figure some things out.
Victim Mentality
So, I developed a way to get over the victim mentality and it was through callousing the mind. I was literally callusing over the victim’s mentality, through outworking all my faults. So I developed a work ethic that became known as what it is now. So I got this ‘world’s toughest man’ because… I am not the best person in the world… I’m not the smartest… I’m not anything… but I learned to outwork everybody around me and that’s how I got to where I am today.
Living Outside The Comfort Zone
I believe that the true growth is at scratch. Starting from scratch is true growth. You have to have friction in your life. There has to be friction in your life for you to be able to move forward.
Becoming The Hardest Man On The Planet
We live in a society right now where mediocrity is often rewarded. Mediocrity is almost a standard. And for me, if you live that way that’s when you get beat.

Let’s say you have 10 people. You have 10 people and all of them are mediocre… and you beat those 10 people, in a race or at work, wherever it may be… you are really still mediocre.
What we do in life is we set our standards to everybody else. What we do in life is we look at what someone did before us. We look at a standard. I don’t look at anybody’s standard. I set my own standard… and how I became this ‘hardest man on the planet’ is I literally set my own standards. I started to reinvent the wheel for myself. I didn’t follow the crowd, whatever the crowd was doing. I didn’t follow. I did what I had to do to to get where I had to go…. and in doing that, that’s where true growth is, is finding yourself.
Advice For Those Going Through Hard Times
Like, for instance social media… All the people on social media… what they do is they show you the best side of them. Everybody on social media, everybody here in this world if you have friends… everybody has 2 sides to them.
The first thing is you have to accept the fact that everybody judging you, you judging yourself, it is ok to be f***ed up. It’s ok to not be exactly like everybody else. It’s ok not to follow the crowd. That’s the one thing I would tell people: Don’t worry about what everybody else is doing… Worry about what you’re doing. Focus on what you’re doing. Because everybody else out there… Everybody judging you, They also have problems themselves.

The Underdog In Us All
The Rocky Story
I got obsessed with people who struggled. People who were at the bottom of the doggone sewer. I got obsessed with watching these people.
And I got obsessed with watching (the movie) Rocky 1 – Round 14
Can I pull off the impossible? … and me watching this film, that’s what I saw, so… there was a no name boxer against the best boxer in the world, who was Apollo Creed. Now I’m watching this guy in the ring, who is Rocky… he’s getting his butt kicked… Falling down, getting back up.

Apollo Creed turns around… Puts his arms in the air. He turns his back to Rocky. He’s assuming he’s down. ‘I got him!’
Why that scene resonates with me so much is that I was such an a dungeon in my life and I feel like I was such in a hole, with nowhere to go, with so many issues and so many things to climb over and overcome on my own…

I wanted every obstacle and every person who ever doubted me to look like Apollo Creed. I wanted the people, obstacles, whatever to look at me like this guy is going to continue coming after me. I wanted what that Rocky had. Just the ability to keep getting up. I don’t care if I win. I don’t care if I’m the best. It’s not about being the hardest man in the world. I just want to keep coming after you.
Remind Yourself Who You Are – “The Cookie Jarâ€
So you go in your mental cookie jar, when you’re going through bad times… When you wanna quit and you wanna bailout… You think about it… Ok, David what did you do? You went through 2 hell weeks. You went through ranger school. You went through this. You went through that. It’s a reminder that you are that badass. And that’s all it is.
The cookie jar is, you take 1 second when you’re in an extreme environment and your mind and your body are saying: We’re done. We need to quit. You can remind yourself: Hang on a second! I’ve been through a hell of a lot more than this and I had the strength to persevere, to move on, to not be mediocre, to not settle for what’s in front of me. To overcome the odds.
WHAT IF You Could? – The “What If Mentalityâ€â€¨â€¨
I hit that roadblock every time. I was 300 pounds. I’ll never forget, I was 300 pounds… I went from 175 to 300 ponds and my goal was to be a navy seal… Impossible goal. And Navy recruiter that saw me said that, besides one. Every recruiter said: There’s no way, man. You’re 297 pounds and you’re going to lose so much weight so fast.
I talked to one recruiter… I’ll never forget, getting back in my truck and he said: “You can not do this†I got in my truck and I said to myself “But what if I could?†What if… I could pull up this miracle? How will I feel at the very end if I can defy all the odds?

What Drives The Hardest Man On The Planet?
It’s truly amazing that a lot of us walk this planet earth being a fraction of what we’re capable of being.
And once you peel that crust away and see who you really are, you open you mind to a whole ‘nother world. So I’ve opened my mind up to a whole ‘nother world that most people can’t even fathom because they haven’t dug deep into their own personal problems.
How To Break The Habit of Making Excuses
Versus saying “I’m not good at it… I’m going to be great at it†I’m going to figure out. I wanna put the work in… That’s how you start to callus your mind.
That’s why I tell everybody: You can not fix anything in life until you fix YOURSELF.
Look Inside Yourself
You Can’t Hurt Me – David Goggins Interview
Why that saying is true, is not because you SAY IT… You have to put the work in to develop that calloused mind… to believe it’s true.

Self Talk – David Goggins Interview
So I’m telling myself I’m the hardest man on the planet… When I’m in the worst situation possible… I’m going back to the 3 hours I’ve put into training everyday… I’m going back to the 3am wakeup call Looking at my shoes thinking God, 75 days in a row. No days off. Running 15 miles a day. I don’t wanna do it And then you lace them up!
Because if you’re taking a test in school and you haven’t studied for it and you say I’m going to pass this test… chances are you’re going to fail it. Because you haven’t put the time in to get the result of passing.
So self talk is good but putting the work in is bigger.

Don’t Talk About It… BE ABOUT IT!
You want to be a practitioner in life. A lot of people who study theories will put these bars… these invisible bars and barriers in your mind about what we can and can not achieve as human beings. That’s a theorist
A practitioner will listen to a man, like a theorist and defy the odds.
130 hours. At hour 48, 72 your mind is a mess. You’re all over the place. A theorist would tell me what he thinks is going to happen. A practitioner dives into suffering and as he’s suffering he is then writing the book while he’s suffering.
And that’s how you start to develop that real self talk. That real visualization… The real tools to get through those hard times.

You May Remain Poor In Life If You Continue Doing These 10 Things
~5.7 mins read
The character they claim is the beauty of a woman and the beauty of a man is wealth, which is why every man wants a comfortable lifestyle and accomplishment. Nobody is able to go through the strongest portion of the performance in order to make that happen. There are some things people do in their day-to-day lives which hinder their ability to succeed. We may see it as a way out of poverty, but, unfortunately, it's the answer to the throne of poverty. In the poverty circle, one guy will be sustained by many activities. Check these out below.
1. Gambling.
There is nothing like getting rich quickly. Energy, attention, and continuous effort are required for financial achievement. Many who want to play are deluded into believing an accomplishment is a shortcut. Many self-made millionaires have not tried fast schemes that have become affluent today. Instead, they get used to chasing one another's hopes and ambitions. In Nigeria, many young people believe so much in playing that they've done their job. From a single hundred naira coin, you presume you can get 15 million naira. How much time would you spend before the target is met? Nowadays, gambling has never made any established rich man accumulate his fortune.
2. Drinking Too Much Alcohol.
Although the occasional glass of wine or beer is fine, drinking too much could and your chances of financial success. Do you know that too much alcohol will affect your mind and your ability to reason? Where do you plan your strategy on financial independence because you can't think and remember things clearly? I'm not saying that alcohol is bad, but all things in existence, including alcohol itself, are restricted. Some individuals say that it's never OK until they feel lost. And, a bad, negative-minded guy looks like that. 1-2 bottles of beer, or even 2 glasses of wine are also very good for a man with a purpose in life. It's not to suggest that they will start drinking two glasses a day. There are times when things need help. In your financial security scheme, say no to excessive alcohol consumption.
3. Your Type Of Friends.
A wise man once told me to show me your friends, and I'll tell you who you are. Such words are genuine. That you are more likely than you think to stick around on matters. A lot of rich people changed their friends today, the day they wanted to make money. Build a habit of communicating with other good individuals, including yourself. If you feel bad about cigarettes and drunkards, even if you don't drink or smoke, one day you will find yourself doing it. And when you surround yourself with the right kind of people, you will be good in life.
4. Too much time spent in front of the television.
Groundbreaking research has discovered that 80% of poor people spend more than five hours a day in front of their TV set. Enable five precious hours to be completed. Did you ever wonder why they don't put their ads on TV for the most expensive cars and properties? The reason is clear: the people who buy and patronize it do not waste time watching TV, so they might not be able to watch it. Rather than entertaining men who are good or wealthy, they would rather teach. They substitute time for television for reading, writing, exercise, or any other form of self-education. I don't say you can't watch TV, but there's so much time you've got to waste. Spend more time planning the map for accomplishment instead of watching people find a path to success.
5. Thinking Negatively.
Long-term success is only possible when you have a sound mental outlook on it. You will never be safe if you ever feel like you're evil. Why bother when you don't believe in yourself? That's one of the reasons you didn't make it fast. You have ideas that I can't do.
Many people have the problem of controlling their feelings, whether positive or negative. When you stop listening and being mindful of your emotions, you'll find most of them disturbing. Yet you just know that, when you push yourself to be mindful of them, you have some bad emotions. Perception is the secret to that. Grab the negative thoughts inside your mind. On these, substitution positivity. A tyrant is the accomplisher, they say. Have faith in yourself.
6. Doing A Job You Don't Love.
Not only does it leave you stressed out and dissatisfied with life, toiling away at a job you despise, but since you do not appreciate the outcome, it could also impede your chances of becoming wealthy. The richest, most famous folks chase their dreams, and during your working days, you should imagine doing the same in life. It is fun interacting with what you love. Passion destroys those who lack passion in life, schooling, experience, skills, and all the other advantages they may have. Passion makes work enjoyable. Enthusiasm gives you the requisite bravery, engagement, and focus to overcome defeats, failures, and failures. It infuses you with a fanatical tenacity that helps you to overcome obstacles and barriers that obstruct your way.
7. Spending too much.
Spending more than you get is the fastest and easiest way to financial collapse.
You can't get 50,000 naira salaries and drive a car that needs monthly maintenance of 15,000 naira, leaving you with 35,000 naira. For the same month, you have to pay for food and rentals, plus you have some little things to do with the money. What was it meant to save? What you are saving and preparing for is deeply relevant even before the paycheck arrives. They don't have the tools to retire, raise their kids, or look for opportunities to give themselves. A lot of challenges are faced by those who invest too much. Investing more than you earn without the possibility of escape, and putting back savings creates long-term poverty.
8. Ignoring customers feedback.
At the end of the day, you could have a business already set up, ignoring customer feedback on your products and services will bring the company down faster than the currency adjustment. Fear of criticism is the reason we don't get feedback from others. By listening to the customers' suggestions, you get more chances to adapt.
Feedback is important for understanding what works and what doesn't. Feedback will help you to find out whether you're on the right track. The need for feedback, whether good or bad, is a key driver for learning and growing. Feedback allows you to succeed and make future changes with the information you need.
Focusing on the present without caring about the future
Usually, when people find it hard to tackle a problem, they choose to ignore it. That’s a sure recipe for disaster. The same is the case with your finances. Generally, people focus on their present needs, wishfully thinking that future needs will somehow be met in some way. You need to take the future into perspective whenever you are making any financial decision. Although it is good to take care of everything in the present, do your best to save for your future.
Not keeping a record of your money
We all think that we know where our money comes from and where it ends up. Sadly, that’s not true for most of us. We might be aware of our major expenditures, but the small things usually eat up our finances more than the big ones. It is an excellent idea to start keeping a journal for all your income and expenses, whether they are huge or small. This way you will have a much better idea for controlling your finances.
