LIFE LESSONS.
~3.9 mins read
Have you ever started something worthwhile, but stopped halfway into the journey? ⁣
⁣
Or maybe you started a life-changing program but stopped it because you had "genuine" excuses. Perhaps your schedule got a whole lot tighter so you decided to put the program on hold. ⁣
⁣
Over 10 years ago, I walked in these shoes until I met with my wise old friend.⁣
⁣
This incident happened a year after I graduated from my Alma Mater, Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun, Delta State, Nigeria)
⁣
Youngblood (me) wanted to conquer every challenge that came my way. I was fired up, full of energy and zest, ready to change my world.⁣
⁣
Alas! A day came when this energy was put to test.⁣
⁣
A friend called to tell me about a life-changing program that he just signed up for, and he wanted me to do the same.⁣
⁣
Like some "rare" opportunities in life, that was the last day of registration, and it was not free. ⁣
⁣
I tried to get money from those in my circle to enable me to meet the registration deadline and payback later. But that option didn't work for me.⁣
⁣
So, I quickly rushed to the bank, not considering how much time I would have to wait for my turn. ⁣
⁣
The queue that day was particularly long. I tried to see how I could ask someone to help me but help was not forthcoming.⁣
⁣
⁣
I had never been so patient in my life as I was waiting for my turn. ⁣
⁣
Some people around me took notice of how restless I seemed. One of them, a young guy looked at me and said, "O boy, calm down na. No, be only you get where you dey go." ⁣
⁣
I tried to explain to him how I badly needed the line to move faster or a good Samaritan to let me take their spot so I could pay before the registration ended. ⁣
⁣
My guy looked at me and said: "And so? Shuo! That one na your cup of tea. Guy, make I let you know, all men get their own problem. Every aboki with his kettle. So, Chill! Your turn goes soon reach."⁣
⁣
As I tried to start calm and wait for my turn, the cashier announced that the bank network was down, encouraging us to exercise patience. ⁣
⁣
Can you imagine? ⁣
⁣
By this time, it was already 2 PM. Two hours had passed since I walked into the bank. ⁣
⁣
Banks back then used to close at 4 pm. ⁣
⁣
The registration for the life-changing program will end at 5 pm the same day. ⁣
⁣
What will I do? As some folks may say: "this one don turn village people matter." 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.⁣
⁣
All the while, I noticed one old man who seemed not to be bothered by the circumstances in the bank. He was so calm. ⁣
⁣
I was curious about his disposition. Quickly I said to myself - he is not in a hurry like I am. Hmmm! ⁣
⁣
The network became active at 3 pm. I thought I could use the opportunity to get to the front. ⁣
⁣
Trust us na. Everyone knew their spot on the queue without any numbering system. ⁣
⁣
With frustration and a sad look, knowing that the bank will soon close, and how it will not get to my turn even if we remain in the bank until 6 pm, I said to myself - at least I tried. ⁣
⁣
Let me just go home. I will tell the whole story as it happened and my friend will know that I actually tried.⁣
⁣
As I was about to leave the bank hall, I heard "young man! Where are you going?" When I turned to see who was talking, I found out that it was the old man. I greeted him and said - home. He said "I thought you really needed the withdrawal. If yes, why quit?" I narrated the whole story just to gain pity.⁣
⁣
The old man laughed and said: "I thought the program could change your life and the time is just 3:45 pm. Son, you never know." I tried to explain but he looked at me and said "Stop that. If you keep quitting just because of challenges, you can never become better. Know this son, challenges are part of life. Now get back on the queue."⁣
⁣
Long story short, I went back to my position. Waiting to prove my wise old friend wrong when suddenly I heard: "young man come over here."⁣
⁣
Guess what, my wise old friend gave me his slot. Did I ask him about his own withdrawal? He said: "I will come again tomorrow." Not only did he gave me his spot, but he also assisted in taking me to the registration venue. I registered and the rest is testimonies. ⁣
