Garlic grows in many parts of the world and is a popular ingredient in cooking due to its strong smell and delicious taste. It had many usage and most especially for health benefits and purpose, other than cooking. Garlic has been used by the ancient Greek, Egyptians, Romanian and Chinese for medicinal purpose. 

However, for the course of this article, we will be talking about the health benefit of cooking or using garlic. 

1.  Garlic is a plant originating from the onion family, that’s grown for its distinctive taste and health benefits. However, it contains sulfur compounds just like that on onions, which are believed to bring some of the health benefits.

2.  Another amazing thing about Garlic is, that it is low in calories and rich in vitamin C, vitamin B6 and even in manganese. It also contains trace or micronutrient, or amounts of various other nutrients which are beneficial to the human body and system. 

3.  Garlic as a supplements help to prevent, and reduce the severity of common illnesses such as the flu and common cold.

4.  High doses of garlic in food appear to improve blood pressure for those with known high blood pressure in other words (hypertension). In some instances, using it as supplements may be as effective as regular medications.

5.  Garlic supplements seem to reduce total and Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, particularly in those who have high cholesterol. However, that of the HDL (high density lipoprotein) cholesterol and triglycerides do not seem to be affected.

6.  Using garlic for cooking can help in cell regeneration or protections as it contains antioxidants that protect against cell damage and aging. It may also reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease and dementia (associated with the brain or memory).

 7.  Also, garlic has known beneficial effects on common causes of chronic disease e.g (infections and blood pressure), so it makes sense that it could also help you live longer when consumed in food.

8. Cooking with garlic may improve physical performance in people with heart disease. Although, benefits in healthy people are not yet conclusive.

9.  Garlic was shown to significantly reduce lead toxicity especially of lead which is a heavy metal, and related symptoms in one particular study.

10. Cooking with garlic appears to have some benefits for bone health by increasing estrogen levels in females, however,  more human studies are needed.

11. Lastly, Cooking with garlic make the food more delicious and it is easy to add to your diet. You can use it in savory dishes, soups, sauces, dressings and lot more.

The health benefits of garlic is enormous, and cooking with it can keep us alive longer.

As an agriculturists, there are so many health benefits palm trees are known for, especially that of the palm wine trees. Palm wine is a traditional drink that is served in social occasions and events. It is a well known local alcoholic drink in most Africa countries, which have a sweet taste when freshly tapped, and it is either served cold or just as normal. 

It is called various name in some countries, such as Mbu in Cameroon, Doka in Ghana, Panam culloo in China, Lambanog in the Philippines, Ukwu or Ngwo in Igbo, and Emu in Yoruba, both in Nigeria etc

It's nutritional value is enormous. It contains sugar, bacteria and yeast (which causes the fermentation), however it contains nutrients like protein, carbohydrates, vitamin C, Amino acids, potassium, magnesium, zinc, iron, vitamin B’s are mentioned but it surely contains them all and even more yet to be proven

Just because most people see it as an alcoholic drink, they know little or nothing about the nutrient it contains. Palm wine contains rich nutrients that provide the body with lots of health benefits which are talked about below.

1. Improving of the Eye Vision or Sight

Believe it or not, this is one of the known primary functions of palm-wine which most person's are not aware of. Palm wine contains some vitamins and the presence of these vitamins in palm wine such as vitamin C and B’s have a vital role which they play in improving eye vision or sights.

Generally, vitamins are known to help in keeping the eye healthy and reduces the chances of getting eye problems as much as possible. The Vitamin C found in it, helps in building the connective tissues of the body and the blood vessels of the eye preventing related eye problems like cataracts, macular degeneration etc. While the Vitamin B1 and B12 help it contains help in solving vascular-related issues that concern the retina which could result in chronic inflammation of the eyes.

 2. It Helps in Building and Repairing the Body Structure

One of the most essential nutrient needed by the body is protein. The body cannot do without it, and palm wine happens to contains lots of amino acids whose main function is to act as the building block which is found in the Protein.

More so, with this contents it contains, it helps the body in building and improving the cells, and as well in storing nutrients in the body which are very much vital for the functioning of the body’s organ. It also plays a major role in the repairing of the human body tissues, the structures of the bones, and as well as the muscles.

 3. It is Use in Treating Skin Rashes

This is one common medicinal values of palm wine, as it is used in most places, externally in the treatment of some skin conditions such as rashes, eczema etc especially in small children. This is done by rubbing the affected areas or parts with not mixed or unadulterated palm wine. The vitamin contents in it will help soothe the skin and relieve such skin problems.

5. It Increases Lactating Mothers Milk

This is one major effects in women. Though traditionally, it is widely believed that taking or drinking of palm wine help increase the milk in lactating mothers, however it's has been proven scientifically.

Palm wine has long served as the main beverage for lactating mothers in many West African countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon etc. It have in some ways been locally proven to help mothers whose breast milk are low, thereby increasing the flow for adequate milk flow in lactating mothers.

6. It Improves The Heart Conditions

The potassium content it contains makes it a good source of drink, which help in combating various related cardiovascular diseases.

It also helps the nerves and muscles to function very well, which in turn helps in normalizing the rate at which the heart beats, thereby reducing or lowering the blood pressure.

7. It Helps in Fighting Cancer

The antioxidants content it contains, help to prevent free radicals from damaging the cells in the body and fight cancer. Any kind of food rich in antioxidants or contains antioxidants properties are known to help the body in reducing cancer risk.

A given example of such antioxidants which is found in palm wine is Vitamin B2 (also known as Riboflavin).
