For your body to function the way it is designed to, the foods and drinks you consume must be filtered to separate the beneficial nutrients from the waste materials, with the waste materials removed in the form of urine. The filtering role is performed by the two bean-shaped organs called kidneys. Apart from this, the kidneys are also required to maintain mineral and fluid balance.

The kidneys, many times can be affected by various health issues that may inadvertently lead to either a reduced kidney function or even damage in severe cases. The food and drinks you consume can also have impacts on the health of your kidney and when the ability of the kidney to perform its roles becomes reduced or impaired, fluid can build up in the body, causing the accumulation of waste in the blood.
Increased intake of such foods can overwork your kidneys because the two kidneys would have to exert more energy to remove the extra fluids that could build up in the body due to the consumption of certain foods. However, when you limit the intake of such foods, you would be able to avoid the buildup of excess protein, sodium, potassium, and phosphorus, especially if your kidneys are not as strong before.

Four examples of such foods are described below:
1. Avocados
Avocadoes are considered one of the healthiest fruits due to their composition of heart-healthy fats, fibre, and antioxidants. However, they are a rich source of potassium, a mineral whose excess is inimical to the health of the kidneys of people whose kidneys are not as strong as before.
2. Bananas
Bananas are also one of the most nutritious fruits on the planet are often touted for their high potassium content. Excessively consuming them may overwork your kidneys especially if your kidney functions have been reduced, as the kidneys would have to work harder to prevent the buildup of potassium in the body.
3. Dairy
You may also have to reduce your consumption of dairy products and whole milk as their excessive intake can lead to the buildup of protein waste in the blood. Apart from this, dairy products are also rich in phosphorus and potassium, with excessive intake of phosphorus linked to a buildup of phosphorus in the blood which can pull calcium from your bones.
4. Processed meats
Processed meats such as hot dogs and sausage are well-documented for the adverse effects they have on the body. They are known to possess abnormal amounts of salt which can increase sodium levels in the blood. They are also high in protein and your kidneys would have to work harder to remove excess protein from your blood.
