Have you ever wondered if there are other swallows apart from the general ones like Eba, Fufu, Amala, etc? If you do, this article is set to satisfy your curiosity. This article will expose you to other swallows eaten by Nigerians apart from the regular ones in society.
Another interesting fact about these swallows is that majority of them are recently discovered and are not very common in contemporary Nigerian society. Lovers of unique foods other than the regular routine would find this exposure fascinating while the reverse will be the case of others. Without further ado, let's delve into the list of alternatives to regular swallows.
Zucchini/Courgette Swallow
The first On the list is the Zucchini swallow. It is one of the latest discoveries from the Zucchini/Courgette vegetables. Zucchini looks like Cucumber but it is very different from it. Zucchini/courgette can be in a uniform color or in a striped form as in the picture below.
One of the many benefits of eating zucchini swallow is that it has a very low calorie (about 17 calories per 100g). The following are the ingredients needed to cook a Zucchini swallow.
1. Zucchini vegetable (It could be in any gram depending on the large size of the family)
2. Psyllium Husk Powder
3. Water
How To Prepare Zucchini Swallow
STEP1: Your ingredients will look like the picture below.
STEP2: Wash your Zucchini and slice it.
STEP3: Place sliced Zucchini in a pot and then add water.
STEP4: Steam for some minutes
STEP5: Blend your Zucchini
STEP6: Blend till puree
STEP7: Heat the pot and then pour your Zucchini.
STEP8: Add two tablespoons of psyllium husk powder.
STEP9: Stir! Turn the heat off a minute you added psyllium powder
Your Zucchini swallow is ready for consumption. You can eat with any choice of soup.
2. Cabbage/Cabbeba
Here is another swallow that can also be an alternative to a regular swallow. It is called Cabbage or Cabbeba. Likewise Zucchini, Cabbage is a vegetable from the wild cabbage. Cabbage is common in slaws and salads, little did do you know that it can also serve as a swallow meal. (See Photo Below)
Ingredients
• Red or White cabbage
• Gari granules
• Water
You can follow the steps highlighted above to prepare Cabbeba. The only addition is that a little of garri will be added when stirred.

This is also an alternative to regular swallows.

This is also a modern and healthy diet. It is prepared by cooking blended grains of oats in water and stir until pasty. The benefits of eating oats are; it stabilizes blood sugar, reduces cholesterol level, and blood pressure.
7. Plantain Swallow/Plantain fufu
This is also an alternative to Amala, Eba, etc. It is made from unripe plantain. According to connect Nigeria, this food is recommended for diabetic patients.
8. Tuwo Shinkafa
This is a rich food prepared from thick pudding of rice flour. It is usually eaten mostly by the Northerners. It is an energy-giving food and it is best to enjoy with Miyan Kuka Soup.

INSTEAD OF EBA AND FUFU,TAKE THIS FOR BIG TUMMY

Eating swallow and any kind of soup is regular in our country Nigeria. A lot of people eat eba, fufu, pounded yam, amala and so on. Don't forget that most of these foods tend to increase your tummy size when eaten frequently. However, we just can't stay away from eating soup and swallow because we get our strength from it. What then can we use as an alternative.
The purpose of this article is to introduce you to other swallow options. These swallow options are also light and won't give you a big tummy. For those of us that cherish our flat tummy but still want to eat good food, this article is for you. Let's get straight to the point. Here are the swallow options:
Oatmeal
This is very easy to make. You can easily buy our regular Quaker oats and make it with a blender. Pour it into a blender and mix.
Pour out into a bowl and mix with hot water. Stir it the way you make eba.
Keep stirring and it's ready! Eat with any soup of your choice.

4. Cabbage Swallow
You need just two ingredients to prepare this which are cabbage and psyllium husks powder.
Look at the pictures below and observe them carefully:
Cut the cabbage and boil in a pot. Put in another bowl and mix very well. Add the psyllium husks powder and mix again. Wrap it and allow it to happen. You can now eat with any soup of your choice.
