Dansu Asogba, a 23-year-old man in the Ipokia area of Ogun State, southwest Nigeria has confessed to the killing of his 60-year-old aunt, Iyabo Dansu after a herbalist reportedly threatened to invoke the spirit of the deceased against her killer.
Naija News reports that the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, September 12, explained that the suspect was arrested following his confession.
The Ogun Police PRO said the suspect was arrested following a report by two children of the deceased who reported the case....
According to him, “They reported that they received information on August 22, 2020 about the demise of their mother who was not known to be suffering from any illness.
“They stated further that since they were not suspecting any foul play, they decided to bury her without necessarily reporting to the police.
But immediately after the burial, they heard information that the suspect, who is a nephew to the deceased, was seen in her house on that day, and shortly after he left, the woman was declared dead.
But immediately after the burial, they heard information that the suspect, who is a nephew to the deceased, was seen in her house on that day, and shortly after he left, the woman was declared dead.
“This aroused the suspicion of the people of the community and they threatened to carry out a traditional ritual which would expose the killer. On hearing about the intention of the community to go spiritual about the deceased, the suspect Dansu Asogba came out and confessed being responsible for the woman’s death.â€
Upon the suspect’s confession, the Divisional Police Officer, Ipokia Division, SP Adebayo Hakeem, detailed policemen to the scene, where he was promptly arrested. On interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted killing the deceased, claiming that he did so because he believed she was responsible for the death of his first child and a miscarriage suffered by his wife.
“He confessed further that it was an iron rod he used to hit the woman on the neck which resulted in her death.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.â€

Edo girl, 9, rots away and dies after being' raped for rituals' by a 60-year-old chief who is now on the run
A 9-year-old girl has tragically died after her body began to rot following a "ritualistic rape" incident.
Habiba was allegedly raped by a 60-year-old chief in Edo state. According to Priscilla Usiobaifo, the founder of Brave Hearts Initiative, the chief confessed to the crime and begged for forgiveness but he fled the community when he discovered that the girl's parents were bent on getting justice.
Habiba, who was raped on June 11, 2020, soon began rotting away. It began with her suffering seizures hours after the rape incident. Then she became unwell and her health continued to deteriorate, causing people to suggest that she had been raped for rituals.
Last week, rashes appeared on Habiba's skin and her skin started peeling.
She died last Saturday, August 29, while she was being transferred to a more advanced hospital where she was expected to get better care.
Ms Usiobaifo revealed that Habiba had become so deformed before her death that it was "extremely difficult" to recognize her.
The mother of the deceased is inconsolable and the suspect is still free. Police at the Igarra division in Akoko-Edo, Edo state, have reportedly made repeated attempts to capture the chief, all to no avail.
