Situated on a pastoral 1200 estate, it is a farmstead on the hills of Mbiabong/OdiokItam in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Surrounded by a friendly forest that has become home to human, two flowing streams run across the farm in all seasons. The forest habours palm trees of different species that are as old as 300 years, tall shrubs, plants and other wildlife.
I recently had a chat with the proprietor of the Farm, Francis Udom - a Scotland based chartered marine and mechanical engineer.
What inspired the idea?
'It dates back to the year - 2004 after I visited Blackberry Farm in Texas, US. I thought I could do something similar back home. I wanted a place, a park where people can come in and spend time away from home, have different kinds of attractions and adventures and migrate from the norm of going to a bar to drink. We have something similar in the UK and Scotland'.
For a first time visitor, the experience is simply breathtaking.From the muscuvy duck and swans (native American birds) swimming on the waters, a horse-ride on request, peacocks in their beauty and pride, monkeys, local brews and locally cooked meals and other attractions, Legolas farm winks seductively at pleasure seekers - young and old and irrespective of class. There is a thing for everyone.
Also, there are comfortable lodges for anyone who wishes to stay the night.
'Before the second quarter of this year, 16 new apartments will be completed. We have surveyed the entire area, our plans for the future include the building of gazebos where people can come, pay rent and stay for years while doing their own thing', the proprietor squealed.
Devoid of pollutants and emissions that are toxic, the resort has helped transformed the Ecosystem. Some birds that hitherto were not found there are now present as a result of pollination. The management says it is proud of this.
Whether you are a tourist or local guest, your security is of premium importance. The resort is one of the most secured places in Itu Local Government Area. It is within the coverage of three units of the Nigeria Police - Itam Division, Itu Division and the Federal Police. Then there's is the 'Eagle 9' which is directly responsible for security of the Ibom Science Park - a relative neighbour to the Farm. Lastly, there is a local security arrangement because the community regards the project as its heritage.
