Six Famous Artist From Plateau State In Nigeria

1. Ice Prince
Panshak Henry Zamani, popularly known by his stage name as Ice Prince is a famous Nigerian hip hop rapper, singer, songwriter, recording artist, stage performer, actor and a model.
He has been described as one of the greatest rapper in Africa by several media organizations. He is very handsome, gifted, skillful, creative and talented. He was born on 23rd October 1986 in the city of Minna, Niger State in the northern part of Nigeria but he is originally from Plateau State.
At the age of 2 years old, he moved with his family to the mining city of Jos, Plateau State in the northern part of Nigeria. While in Jos, Ice Prince completed his primary school education and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. After completing his primary school education, Ice Prince proceeded to St. Murumba College in Jos, Plateau State in the northern Nigeria and obtained his West African Senior School Certificate. After completing his secondary school education, Ice Prince attended Science Tutorial College in Jos, Plateau State in the northern part of Nigeria.
In 1999, Ice Prince began writing his rap songs and started performing at social events held in school and university campus. It was not until 2001 that he began going to studios to record his songs. In 2002, Ice Prince met with a couple of his friends and together they formed a group called the “Ecomog Squadâ€. They had few performances as a group and split a year later.
In 2004, Ice Prince met with M.I, Jesse Jagz, Ruby, Lindsey, Eve and Taz, and together they all became what is currently known today as the “Loopy Crewâ€. After completing his secondary school education, Ice Prince got admitted into the University of Jos in Plateau State in the northern part of Nigeria to study Zoology, but he couldn’t continue his studies because of some financial constraint at the time.
Ice Prince and M.I became friends at a very tender age and started rapping together in Jos and later became popular in the city of Jos in Plateau State, Nigeria. He rose to fame after releasing the hit single “Oleku†featuring Brymo and later became one of Nigeria’s most remixed songs of all time.
In 2009, Ice Prince participated in the Hennessy Artistry competition, a competition organized by the Hennessy brand which supports urban and contemporary music and came out of the competition as the winner. Ice Prince is currently signed to Chocolate City record label and Super Cool Cats records label. He currently has a son named Jamal Zamani.
In 2004, Ice Prince released his debut hit single “Extraordinary Rewind†which received massive radio airplay in the city of Lagos and Abuja. It was also charted on Rhythm Fm’s Top 7 chart. It also topped first at NotJustOk Hype, Unilag FM, Zain Central Station, Inspiration Fm, Cosmo FM’s and Africa Connect Chat Show. In addition to that, it also charted at number 1 on Cool FM and Vision FM in Abuja the capital city of Nigeria.
Ice Prince has won Best International Act at BET Award and Best Rap Act of the Year at the Nigeria Entertainment Award. He rose to fame after releasing the hit single “Oleku†which he featured Brymo. He won the 2009 Hennessy Artistry Club Tour. Ice Prince has received several achievements and awards in the music industry which include one Bet Award, one Ghana Music Award, three Headies Awards, two Nigeria Entertainment Awards, two Channel O Music Video Awards and two Channel O Music Video Awards.
Ice Prince is currently signed to Chocolate City record label along side with M.I, Jesse Jagz and Brymo. In 2011, he released his first debut studio album “Everybody Loves Ice Princeâ€. It was later supported by top singles like Oleku, Superstar, Juju and Magician.
In 2013, Ice Prince released his second debut studio album “Fire of Zamaniâ€. The album contained hit singles like Aboki, More, Gimme Dat and I Swearâ€.
On 1st July 2015, Ice Prince was announced as the new Vice President of Chocolate City, while M.I still remains the President.
Ice Prince has cited Notorious B.I.G, Rakim, Jay-Z, Common, Talib Kweli, Kanye West, Ludacris, Busta Ryhmes, Lauryn Hill, M.I and Jesse Jagz as his key musical influences. During an interview, he described M.I as his brother, his friend, his mentor and his source of inspiration.
Ice Prince currently has a son named Jamal with his babymama Bimbo Babatunde. In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, Ice Prince stated that he dated Eva Alordiah when he first relocated to Lagos, Nigeria.
Ice Prince in the cause of his career has won several awards. In 2018, he won Best Rap single at the Headies Awards, Best Male Hip Hop Artist at the Future Africa Award and Best Rap Act of the Year at the Nigeria Entertainment Award. In 2014, he won Best Hip Hop at the MTV Africa Music Awards, Rap Artiste of the Year and Rap Album of the Year at the City People Entertainment Awards. In 2012, he won African Artist of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards, amongst others.
2. Jeremiah Gyang
Jeremiah Pam Gyang was born on October 13th, 1981 in Jos South local government area of Plateau state, Nigeria, to Evangelist Gyang Luke Dung. He is a Multi-award winning musician and record producer from Plateau State.
Jeremiah began playing the Piano and Guitar before reaching the age of ten. His father, late Rev. Luke Dung Gyang was a revered and well known musician in Jos in the 1970’s and ‘80’s and remains a major influence on Jeremiah’s music. He attended Boys secondary school Gindiri.
From his stirring beginnings as a music director for the Church choir, Jeremiah has evolved a great deal. His music has been described as ‘a fine blend of soulful African rhythms, blues, rock and gospel’. Songs like ‘African Child’ where he describes the horrors of war, define Jeremiah as an extraordinary songwriter.
Jeremiah is credited as being responsible for bringing contemporary Hausa music to the mainstream with hits like ‘Na Ba Ka’, a song featuring Six Foot Plus and ‘Kaunar Allah’ (God’s Love) featuring Rapper, M.I.
As an upcoming artiste, Jeremiah was a member of the resident band at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Abuja. He cut his teeth as a producer at Quest Media Studios in Abuja and has to his credit songs produced for artistes Age Beeka, O.D: Over Dose, Terry da Rapman and Bouqui. In 2012, he released The Love Album.
Jeremiah abhors ‘crab mentality’ and the pull him down syndrome and thus derives pleasure from helping other talented artistes climb up the musical ladder and having first put Jos on the musical map, he has gone further to open the floodgates for other ‘J-town’ acts to be successful.
On August 28th, 2010, Jeremiah married his longtime love Ladi Otache in Jos, Plateau State. Jeremiah and Ladi dated for over a decade and are known to be a tight knit and private couple. In the past, Ladi has acted as Jeremiah’s PA. The couple live in Abuja with their two daughters. Jeremiah's brother, Sammy Gyang, is also a musician.
Recently orphaned with the death of his mother, the double tragedy of losing both parents at a young age has affected Jeremiah more than any career success or failure ever could. But he has been able to draw strength from this and will only hope to continue to create great music.
3. Mista Seth
Retyit Seth Maxwell Dayok, popularly known by his stage name Mista Seth, is a talented producer, song writer and vocalist.
He has brought out the best in artists including Ruggedman, Mode 9, Six foot plus, Sgt Plus, Terry Da Rap Man, Over Dose (OD), Ricky Bent, Benser, Samsung, Solomon Lange among many others. His works speak for it self as many say that he is a master of producing hits. His success did not just happen over night or was it accidental but, it was a conscious effort made possible by his determination to succeed and be the best at what he does, although he will not rule out the grace of God and the support of his parents most especially his Father.
Mista Seth was born in a Christian home in Jos city Nigeria to a clergy Rev Maxwell Dayok, who taught his children the virtues of hard work and commitment which he exemplify by offering to set up a music studio for his kids when he discover their love for music. This singular act of faith became a motivation for Mista Seth to leave Jos City for Abuja to seek for knowledge to improve and develop his musical talent. He then started by working along side Jeremiah Gyang, Blast, etc at “Quest Media†Abuja. Soon he began producing hit tracks. After working as a producer for some years he decided to expand his reach and started recording as an Artist. He began as a Secular Artist and started attracting more fame and fortune to his delight then tragedy struck him. It was an unknown illness or a “spiritual attack†that kept him out of action for some time. This incident made him return home to his parents; he asked for their forgiveness and promise to keep his faith and dedicated himself to God for service. Quickly he recovered and found his voice back in the entertainment industry. Today Mista Seth still produce’s hit tracks for several artists and him-self. He works in his own studio called “Mista Seth’s Kitchen†aka “Da Murhu†meaning where he cook his beats.
Mista Seth is currently on tour performing in schools, campus, shows, concerts, churches and stages around. He currently is believed to have the highest fan base in J-Town as people gather in venues in mass to watch him perform. He is originally from Plateau State.
4. LAH scientist
Murphy Rabuwa Tamida, better known by his stage name LAH scientist, is a producer, sound engineer and a rapper from Jos, Plateau state of Nigeria.
He is also a founding member of the hip hop group U.G.M.C and CEO of Rap Genius Productions which began in 2010.
He developed his rap skills by listening to American rappers such as RZA, GZA, Inspectah Deck, Snoop and Dr Dre,Guru the gangster Mos Deff and Talip Kwalli.
Murphy Rabuwa Tamida has worked as a sound engineer in Lenscope Media Jos, in the production of multiple projects such as Garin Muna Fata, a radio drama about health related issues, supported by the Bill and Melinda Gate foundation. In the area of music he is responsible for the production of so many albums.
In 2017 LAH scientist started working on his 2nd studio album, title The Wrong Side of Things.
5. Neken Chuwang
Neken Chuwang is an award winning singer, songwriter, guitarist, recording and performing artist, sociologist, from Plateau State.
Starting his musical career officially in 2014, he has exponentially risen to become the toast of music lovers in Plateau state and Nigeria at large.
His songs are known for the simplicity accompanying the lyrics and rhythms. His debut album, GRATEFUL, attests to this style as he is driven by a conviction to glorify God and edify humanity through his art.
Besides music, Neken is an advocate for peace, social justice, youth leader and lover of his family. He is the first of five children born to Rev & Mrs Gyang Moses Chuwang.
6. Ruby Gyang
Ngohide Ruby Ann Gyang, better known by her stage name Ruby Gyang , is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. She is currently signed to Chocolate City.
Ruby Gyang was born in Jos, Plateau State , where she spent her early years. She hails from Plateau State.
Her journey to stardom begun when she formed Loopy Music alongside MI, Ice Prince and Jesse Jagz . Ruby Gyang has worked and collaborated with artists such as MI, Jesse Jagz , Show Dem Camp, Ice Prince and Bez. Ruby Gyang joined Chocolate City Music after Loopy Music's merger with Chocolate City Music in 2015. She has released an EP under the label.
