These 3 Animals Are No Longer In Existence, No. 2 Was Shy Of Humans
~6.7 mins read
There are over 8 million species of animals in the world and zoologists are concerned some of these may vanish even before they are discovered. There had been a number of animals that once lived on earth but are no longer in existence. Some of these animals were discovered through fossils. This article reveals some of these animals.
1. Smilodon
Smilodon was a large animal that weighed about 160kg to 280kg with larger body size than that of modern lions. Also known as the Saber-toothed tiger, Smilodon is the most famous historic animal.

They are known for their pair of long bladelike canines. They became extinct about 10,000 years ago allegedly because their preys were at the verge of extinction. Other reported factor for their extinction was climate change and competition.

2. Tasmanian tiger
The Tasmanian tiger(also known as Thylacine) was a carnivorous mammal that was common in Tasmania and the Australian mainland. The Tasmanian tiger was shy and secretive as they were reported to avoid human contact.

They were reported to have gone extinct about 80 years ago with the last known animal captured live in 1930 in Tasmania. The causes of their extinction were excessive hunting and habitat destruction.

3. Woolly Mammoth
This is a giant mammal considered to be the ancestor of the modern day elephants.

They were common in North America having roughly the same size as modern African elephants. They became extinct about 10,000 years due to environmental factors, majorly because of the rising sea level.

We hope that quick measures are taken to prevent more species of animals from going into extinction.
