Thomas Sankara condemned patriarchy (male domination)

and dismantled it in Burkina Faso during his tenure.

He once said, "The man, no matter how oppressed he is, has another human being to oppress: his wife. To say this is without any doubt to affirm a terrible fact."

Thomas Sankara refused to use the air condition in his office because it was not available to the common man. It wasn't a merely symbolic gesture.

He reduced his salaries and that of ministers and senior civil servants. He built 350 schools and made sure every village had medical presence.

He was a true reformist and one of African finest.
