Youth In Nigeria Urged To Embrace The Opportunities In Agricultural Business World
~1.1 mins read
An agricultural entrepreneur, Mr Oluwole Azeez, has urged Nigerian youths to recognise opportunities in farming and embrace the trade rather than roaming the street.
Oluwole, founder of FarmKonnect Agribusiness Nigeria, stated this during the inauguration of â€˜Wave City,’ an agricultural project aimed at promoting food sufficiency, national development and agricultural inclusion.
He said the mission of the project is to take agriculture beyond just planting and making money, but a business that promotes food sufficiency, national development, as well as agricultural inclusion.
The farmer therefore advised youths to align themselves with the current trend in the agricultural sector by recognising the opportunities in the industry.
He said: “Youths should align now to stop looming hunger. With the youth population that we have, sub-Saharan Africa should not be a malnourished region on the planet.
The vision is to build 1,000,000 square metres of greenhouses. A controlled farming environment technology using greenhouses and net houses to produce fruits and leafy vegetables from tomatoes to pepper.
He appreciated the Osun State government for its support to the project, assuring them of greater benefits in terms of food sufficiency and job creation.
While speaking on behalf of Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State, Mr Adewole Adedayo, the state Commissioner for Agriculture affirmed that every responsible government must create enabling environment for farmers, describing the project as one of its kind in the state the and south-west region.
Also, Dr Bosade Ogunlana, the founder, Entrepreneurship Initiative, lauded the firm on the project, saying it would help in empowering the youth.

Nigeria: Cattle Colonies Adamawa Govt Registers 64 Grazing Reserves
~1.0 mins read
The Adamawa Commissioner for Livestock Production, Isah Salihu, on Thursday said the state government has already registered 64 grazing reserves and gazetted 30 of them across the state.
Mr. Salihu, in an interview with journalists in Yola said that the development was to complement the efforts of the federal government to establish cattle colonies.
According to the commissioner, cattle business contributes about 37 per cent yearly to the state’s Gross Domestic Product, GDP.
“The State Government has already registered 64 grazing reserves out of which 30 were gazetted. The development was to complement federal government’s cattle colonies programme,” Mr. Salihu said.
He called on the federal government to fast-track the completion of construction of the three pilot grazing reserves in the state.
He complained that the state government was not happy with the way the projects were being done at snail speed.
Mr. Salihu described the anti-open grazing law introduced by some state government as “unfortunate” adding that the development would not solve the lingering farmers/herdsmen crisis.
The federal government is proposing cattle colonies across the nation as a measure to stem perennial confrontations between pastoralists and herdsmen across the nation, which has claimed many lives.
A few state governors have already dismissed the idea, noting that they would not cede any land for the project.
