A High Court judge in Borno State, Haruna Mshelia, who was kidn@pped in June, 2024 has been released.
On Monday, June 24, Mshelia was abd+cted alongside his wife, driver and police orderly along Biu-Maiduguri – Damaturu Road.
Justice Mshelia, was travelling with his wife, a Magistrate, from Biu to Maiduguri when they were ambushed by heavily armed group between Borno and Yobe States.
He was released by his abd+ctors on Saturday, September 7, after two months in captivity.
This was announced on a WhatsApp platform of Borno lawyers.
“Alhamdulillah, we have just received the news of the release of Justice Haruna Mshelia,” the message read.
The statement said only Mr Mshelia was released. His wife, police orderly and his driver remain in captivity. A follow-up message urged continued prayers for their safety.
The Chairman of the NBA Maiduguri branch, Hamza Zannah, also confirmed the judge’s release to Humangle.

The Nigerian Army has detained a woman named Grace Markus, who is accused of being an informant for kidn@ppers in Taraba and Benue states.
Markus was accused of spying for kidnappers and facilitating the recent abd+ction of one Malam Saidu at Vesee in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
She was also accused of participating in multiple kidnap operations conducted by her boyfriend, a notorious kidn@pper known as Chen, around border communities in Taraba and Benue states.
The Acting Assistant Director, 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, Captain Oni Olubodunde Markus, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, September 7.
“Following the recent abd+ction of one Malam Saidu at his residence at Vesee community in Ukum LGA of Benue State, troops of 6 Brigade in Sondi village of Wukari LGA of Taraba State conducted an intelligence-led operation on 6 September 2024 and arrested a suspected kidn@ppers informant named Miss Markus Grace for reportedly aiding kidn@ppers and crim+nal elements in the area.
She is also confirmed to be a girlfriend of a notorious kidn@pper named Chen who was reported to be terr+rizing the general area. The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation to reveal the extent of her involvement in various criminal enterprises,” the statement reads in part.

Apple (AAPL) is likely to unveil its newest phones and the next generations of the Apple Watch and AirPods at an event on Monday.
The iPhone maker is expected to officially announce the long-anticipated iPhone 16, supercharged with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
The event is called "It’s Glowtime," with the company's announcement displaying the company's logo in the style of the glowing aura of Apple's Siri interface. The virtual assistant with new AI-powered capabilities is likely to be a focus of the event.
Apple in June announced its newest operating system, iOS 18, and its personal intelligence system, Apple Intelligence. The coming event will land roughly a year after Apple's iPhone 15 launch.
The company also unveiled a partnership with Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into iOS 18 later this year. Apple Intelligence is expected to roll out after the initial iOS 18 launch.
Apple's event comes not long after Alphabet's (GOOGL) Made By Google launch event, at which the company unveiled the Pixel 9, along with the latest versions of its smartwatches and wireless earbuds.
That event, held in mid-August, showcased how the company is integrating AI into its devices, including its AI voice assistant, Gemini Live.
Apple shares have gained close to 15% since the start of the year, at $220.82 as of Friday's close.
