Osimhen Set to Return to Napoli but Reportedly Banished from the First Team to Join Youth Team
Victor Osimhen has been instructed to report to Napoli for pre-season training following the conclusion of his loan at Galatasaray, where he enjoyed a stellar campaign, scoring 37 goals and assisting six to help the Turkish giants secure a league and cup double.
Despite speculation over his future, the Nigerian striker is expected at Napoli’s training camp on July 14–15 unless a transfer materialises before then. So far, only Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia has met his €75 million release clause, but Osimhen reportedly declined their offer, casting doubt on a summer move.
Napoli will begin their pre-season with medicals before heading to Dimaro, Trentino-Alto Adige for training from July 17–27. They will then continue preparations in Castel di Sangro from July 30 to August 14 after a two-day break.
However, new head coach Antonio Conte has made it clear that Osimhen is not part of his plans for the upcoming season. The 26-year-old will train separately from the main squad and will not participate in any tactical or technical sessions. Instead, he will maintain his fitness by working with the club’s youth team — a situation reminiscent of last season when he was sent home from camp amid transfer uncertainty.

Polytechnic Ibadan Students Protest Renaming the Institution After Ex-Governor Omololu Olunloyo
Students of The Polytechnic Ibadan on Tuesday staged a protest at the Oyo State Government Secretariat, rejecting the decision to rename the institution after former governor Omololu Olunloyo.
Carrying placards with various inscriptions, the students urged Governor Seyi Makinde to reverse the move and retain the institution’s original name. They argued that the Polytechnic’s identity and legacy are globally recognized and should not be altered.
Led by Students’ Union Government (SUG) President Olamide Oladipupo, the protesters emphasized that while they respected the late statesman, renaming the polytechnic would undermine its heritage.
Governor Makinde had announced the name change on June 26, 2025, during Olunloyo’s funeral at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan. Olunloyo, who passed away on April 6, 2025, was the institution’s first principal and briefly served as Oyo State governor in 1983.
“In honour of Baba, the Polytechnic will now be known as Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan,” Makinde had declared, praising Olunloyo’s legacy as a scholar, technocrat, and statesman.
However, the decision has sparked backlash, echoing similar controversies over recent renaming of institutions across Nigeria. Moves to rename the University of Abuja as Yakubu Gowon University and the University of Lagos as Moshood Abiola University have also faced widespread opposition from students and alumni.

Ondo Govt to Probe Circumstances Surrounding Fmr. Gov. Akeredolu’s D+ath
The Ondo State Government has announced plans to investigate the circumstances leading to the d+ath of former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who passed away on December 27, 2023, after a long b+ttle with prostate cancer.
Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo (SAN), revealed on Tuesday that a coroner’s inquest would be initiated following petitions from concerned citizens and professional groups, particularly from Akeredolu’s hometown, Owo.
Ajulo stated that the petitions, which raised questions and highlighted alleged inconsistencies around the late governor’s d+ath, had made it necessary to invoke the Coroner’s Law of Ondo State.
“It is not out of place for citizens to demand its invocation when there are legitimate concerns,” he said. “The Attorney-General is duty-bound to act once such concerns are raised.”
Ajulo assured the public that the investigation would follow due process, free from bias or political interference. He noted that any necessary invitations or arrests would be made strictly according to legal procedure.
He also clarified that decisions such as inspecting Akeredolu’s remains or summoning individuals would be determined by the Coroner Judge.
“This process must be handled with civility and a sense of responsibility to both the late governor’s legacy and the peace of the state,” Ajulo added.
He emphasized that under the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the law would be upheld without fear or favour: “No one is above the law, and no one is beneath its protection.”
