Amaechi Speaks On Ibadan- Kano Rail Poject Delay
~1.6 mins read
Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi thanked Senate President Ahmad Lawan; and House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila to end federal government investigations into foreign loans and trade deals.

Amaechi also blamed the National Assembly for delaying the Ibadan- Kano railway project due to the council' s investigation.
The minister, who broadcasts the recently released news on Channel TV on Wednesday, said Chinese authorities have expressed doubts about Nigeria' s ability to repay loans to be funded when a domestic commission carries out an investigation.

In its plenary session on May 12, 2020, the assembly criticized Nigeria' s credit agreement with China and called for it to be revised and repealed under Mohammadu Buhari' s regime.
Parliamentary committees, protocols and agreements chaired by Mr. Nicholas Ossai, who is in charge of the investigation, raised concerns about " dangerous" clauses in loans and trade agreements with international agencies and other countries, particularly China.

After the first and second meetings of the Commission, the Commission invited several ministers and other high ranking officials to the third meeting of the day.
On Wednesday, Amaechi recalled warnings that the investigation would prevent the Chinese government from extending the loan.
When asked about Nigerians' concerns about loans and whether the government wants to invest more in the implementation of the rail project, the minister said: " When the Federal Ministry of Transport announced the contract, we did not receive any loans.

He added, " Let me tell you about the credit we have received; President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan' s government loaned $500 million to execute Abuja- Kaduna. We don' t borrow money.
" But when we got there we had to close Abuja- Kaduna according to the budget. We completed Itakpe- Warri out of our own pocket and budget. This month we will start working on the Kaduna- Kano railway line.
