11.3 million Ghanaians are in agriculture – Report
Newsroom GH

Oct. 20, 2020

The 2017/2018 Ghana Census of Agriculture report has revealed that over 11.3 million Ghanaians are involved in agriculture.

Fifty-one percent of the 11.3 million are women, while 49 percent are men, all from 2.6 million households.

Agricultural activity in the country, according to the report, remains mainly rural and rudimentary, with little innovation and modernisation.

It says the level of education among agricultural holders is low; while the sector, to a large extent, is characterised by consumption of its own produce.

Agricultural activity in the country, according to the report, 75.2 percent of the sector remains mainly rural and rudimentary, with little innovation and modernisation.

The use of modern tools and equipment such as tractors, shellers, power tillers, hatchery/incubator, meat processing equipment and milking equipment is considered negligible.

Tractors are the most used, yet the least owned equipment whilst fertilizer is not used by most holders.

The use of pesticides is highly prevalent among holders and crop cultivation is predominantly dependent on rain.

Additionally, the Report indicated that the sector remains unfriendly to special interest groups, including persons with difficulty in performing activities and women; the level of education among agricultural holders is low; and the sector, to a large extent, is characterised by consumption of its own produce.

The majority of parcels of land used for the cultivation of crops are smaller than two acres, with the youth, generally, finding agribusiness unattractive.

The purpose of the Census is to help provide a basis to monitor the progress of Government’s interventions, offer insights on the transformation of the sector, and, more importantly, ensure the integration of the agriculture, industry and services sectors.

It was launched by President Akufo-Addo on Monday.

The launch marked the release of the first report of its kind for over three decades.

Man Utd Player Ratings As Marcus Rashford And Bruno Fernandes Star In PSG Victory
~0.4 mins read
A late Marcus Rashford strike gave Manchester United a much-deserved win against PSG as the Red Devils got their Champions League campaign off to a dream start with a 2-1 victory.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side took the lead courtesy of a re-taken Bruno Fernandes penalty after the Portuguese midfielder had missed his first effort but PSG's Keylor Navas was adjudged to have come off his line to make the save.

But an Anthony Martial own goal drew the French champions level in the second half after he headed into his own net from a corner.

Tinder Accused Of Discrimination By A Transgender User

Jessica Alves has accused Tinder of discrimination after she was banned from the app just 24 hours after she signed up.

She says she has been permanently barred from Tinder for “violating protocols”, but she believes it was because she is a transgender woman.

However, a rep for Tinder says Jessica’s account has now been restored and was taken down only temporarily while her photos were verified.

The 37-year-old claims to have only chatted to one man on the app but before they could exchange numbers her account was removed.

According to MailOnline, she said:

I then contacted Tinder via email and they said that I can’t never use Tinder again because I have violated their protocols when I clearly haven’t done nothing. I was probably reported by users thinking that my account was fake also. Now I wonder is it because I am a trans woman that I got suspended? Don’t I have the same civil rights to do online dating especially at COVID times where we can’t really meet people? It is very frustrating and I feel very discriminated against by Tinder.

In response to the allegations made by Jessica, a spokesperson for Tinder said: “Jessica Alves’ account was temporarily suspended while we confirmed the authenticity of the profile.

The account is now fully restored. We’ve advised Jessica Alves to add photo verification to her profile which visually displays her profile as being verified and genuine by Tinder.

Jessica was recently dating surgeon Giacomo Urtis.

She sparked speculation that they were engaged when she stepped out with a ring on her wedding finger but has claimed the jewellery was a present from her late father.

Jessica came out as transgender last year and had her adam’s apple and six-pack removed as well as receiving facial feminisation surgery and taking female hormones.

She estimates she’s splashed a huge £900,000 to achieve her look since coming out.

The social media star spent £30,000 on fillers for her breasts and bum, £25,000 on a boob job, as well as £35,000 on injections for her hips, knees and feet.
