~0.9 mins read
A bank manager in Bauchi State has been convicted and imprisoned for misappropriation and forgery.

Sarita Aliyu was managing director of Workman Microfinance Bank when she misappropriated N4.8 million through fraudulent means to her employer’s loss.

The convict fraudulently used the password belonging to the head of the bank’s Credit Unit to create fictitious names and generate fraudulent loan requests.

She then approved the loans and paid N4,786,700 to herself, according to investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The anti-graft agency told the Bauchi State High Court that Aliyu’s acts violated Sections 308 and 363, and punishable under Sections 309 and 364 of the Penal Code Law.

She pleaded guilty to the charges when confronted with evidence, and Justice M.M. Abubakar promptly sentenced her to five years behind bars.

The convict was also ordered to repay the bank N3.8 million.

NYSC HAS INCREASED COVID-19 CASES IN NIGERIA-LAI MOHAMMED
~0.8 mins read
Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information has said the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC is one of the two things responsible for surge in COVID-19 cases in the country.

The minister said those disobeying COVID-19 safety protocols should be blamed for the increase in COVID-19 cases in NYSC camps across the nation.

Mohammed also claimed that more positive COVID-19 cases were reported in Nigeria recently because the federal government had increased COVID-19 testing.

“Two things are responsible for the high cases of pandemic reported at the National Youth Service Corps camps. One is because of consistent testing that has been taking place in NYSC camps.

“The second reason for the high cases is that Nigerians have actually let down their guards,” the Minister said.

Lai Mohammed added that Nigerians no longer observe precautionary measures such as spcial distancing, washing and sanitising of hands regularly.

WHY THE IGBOS CANNOT PRODUCE PRESIDENT-OGUNLEWE
~1.0 mins read
Former federal minister of Works, Adeseye Ogunlewe, has stated that the inability of the people of southeast Nigeria to come together under a leadership would hamper their chances of producing a president in 2023.

Ogunlewe stated this on Arise TV’s The Morning Show programme Wednesday.

He said the Igbos of southeast Nigeria must invest in party politics to stand a good chance at the next general election.

“Another set of people that are appropriate, they are the people from the southeast but they have the problem of leadership,” said Ogunlewe, 77, a member of the All Progressives Congress who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party in 2019.

“They are so endowed that they are spread all over Nigeria and they can gather a lot of votes, but they are too divided. An Imo person, an Enugu person, an Ebonyi man will not listen to themselves.

“They have the money. If they sit down and aggregate what they can offer, they have more money than almost everybody in Nigeria. But have you seen one person from the south-east that said ‘I am interested in the presidency, I will start to campaign all over Nigeria immediately, raise money for me?’ and influence the structure of the party?”
