Why One Analyst Turned Bullish On Starbucks And Cooled On Chipotle
~1.4 mins read

Tuesday's news that Chipotle (CMG) CEO Brian Niccol is leaving to take the same role at Starbucks (SBUX) sent the companies' stocks in opposite directions. It also led analysts to reevaluate the companies, with Baird's David Tarantino upgrading Starbucks and lowering Chipotle's price target.

Tarantino upgraded Starbucks to "outperform" from "neutral," raising the coffee giant's price target to $110 from $81. He also lowered his price target for Chipotle stock to $62 from $74, maintaining an "outperform" rating on the fast casual chain.

Starbucks stock soared more than 24% Tuesday, nearly erasing all of the stock's losses since the start of the year. Chipotle stock sank more than 7%.

"While we acknowledge that near-term results could remain challenged as the company navigates a difficult economy, we now expect sentiment on SBUX to be positive as investors anticipate better fundamentals for the company to emerge over the next 12+ months," Tarantino wrote Tuesday.

Tarantino said the news is likely to weigh on Chipotle in the near term as the chain loses an "exceptional executive" who has been a "key factor" in the company's success over the last several years. But the news likely won't mark the end of Chipotle's growth story, he wrote, as it still has an executive team with the "skills and expertise" to continue Chipotle's "good operating momentum."

Other analysts shared similar thoughts Tuesday. Raymond James analyst Brian Vaccaro said Chipotle's downward stock move is typical of the "knee-jerk reaction" when a "rock star executive" leaves, but could also create an "attractive buying opportunity" as other factors of Chipotle's positive momentum remain intact.

This Fed Official Says Rate Cuts Are ‘Coming’—But He Needs More Data To Be Sure
~1.7 mins read

At least one Federal Reserve official wants to see more data before making any decisions on the central bank's influential interest rate.

Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank President Raphael Bostic told an audience Tuesday that interest rates were likely on their way, but didn’t specifically address whether he thinks the U.S. central bank will cut its influential fed funds rates at its September meeting.

Bostic’s comments come as Federal Reserve officials are keeping a close eye on economic data, looking for the confidence to cut its decades-high interest rate designed to tame inflation.

Bostic still wants to see “a little more data" before making that decision, he said in Atlanta at the Conference of African American Financial Professionals.

After rising in the first quarter of the year, inflation has resumed its path toward the Fed's annual goal of 2%. Bostic said the past four months of data have given him more confidence that price pressures were easing sustainably.

While recent data has alarmed some market watchers, Bostic predicted the economy will withstand the weaknesses.

“A recession is not in my outlook,” Bostic said. “I think there’s still enough momentum in the economy where we could see slowing but not see labor markets deteriorate to a level of considerable concern.”

A lot of economic data released this week could influence the Fed's decision on rates.

Key inflation and consumer spending data will follow a measure of July's wholesale price increases that came in lower than expected.

Bostic said he is paying attention to the data because if the Fed cuts interest rates before inflation is under control, it would create too much market uncertainty.

“We have to be sure that trend is real,” Bostic said.

You Are Too Mature And Professional To Be Engaging In Petty Fights - Charly Boy Tells Paul, Peter Okoye
Veteran singer, Charles Oputa, better known as Charly Boy, has reacted to the feud between music duo and twin brothers, Peter and Paul Okoye of PSquare.
Recall that Peter, in a statement on Monday, explained the cause of their fallout and the involvement of their older brother Jude Okoye and his wife, Ifeoma.
The singer explained that he, Paul and Jude own a management company called Northside Entertainment, which they use to manage all P-Square affairs.
However, he came across a company with a similar name called Northside Music.
He investigated the company and was shocked to discover that the founder and director of the company were Jude and Ifeoma Okoye.
Peter said the address used to register the company was Ifeoma’s family home, and he asked his twin brother, Paul, who denied knowing anything about the company.
This prompted his decision to involve his lawyers and instructed them to file a petition against the suspect, Jude, but told them to exclude his twin brother.
Peter said he filed the petition because he discovered that “millions of dollars and hundreds of millions of Naira were being secretly diverted into this secret company’s account, Northside Music from our own Northside Entertainment.”
He said the investigation by EFCC found that Jude’s secret company had been collecting Northside Entertainment’s royalties for years.
Reacting via his Instagram page, Charly Boy stated that it was too childish and unprofessional for the duo to engage in petty fights of sibling rivalry.
The entertainer cum activist urged the twin brothers to resolve their issue quietly without broadcasting it on social media.
He wrote, “Peter and Paul, please, like this no just good at all. I publicly don’t get involved in peoples wahala even if I have all the facts.
“You guys should be able at your age to lean on one another never to be seen as up in arms against one another.
“If you have a twin by your side, you are indeed fortunate, because twins whether fraternal or identical, are lucky to have one another.
“Whatever the trouble may be, could you guys resolve it quietly without broadcasting all over. It makes you guys look childish.
“You both are far too matured and professional to be engaging in petty fights of sibling rivalry.
“As a twin you guys much watch yourself live two lives. One for him and one for yourself. Biko, stop coming to the public exposing what I believe you guys can solve in the privacy of your homes.

The FCT High Courthas Issued A Fresh Status Quo Injunction In Favor Of Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin
~1.4 mins read
The FCT High Court, presided over by Justice Nwosu Iheme, on monday 12th Aug, 2024 has issued a fresh status quo injunction in favor of Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin of the Deliverance Mercy Land International Ministry, Warri, Delta State. The order is against Mr. Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as “Very Dark Man,” a prominent YouTuber, blogger, and self-proclaimed freedom fighter who operates on various social media platforms, including Facebook.
The court’s decision comes as part of ongoing legal proceedings initiated by Prophet Jeremiah, who filed a lawsuit against Mr. Otse for alleged defamation.
The plaintiff’s legal team, led by Joel Karatu Esq., presented evidence of multiple libelous posts and videos made by “Very Dark Man” on social media, which they claim have caused significant damage to the Prophet’s reputation both within his church community and among his global business partners.
During today’s hearing, the court reiterated its earlier injunction, barring Mr. Otse from publishing or disseminating any further defamatory content about Prophet Jeremiah on any social media platform, including Facebook and YouTube. Justice Iheme expressed concern over the continued publication of defamatory material, despite previous court orders, and issued a stern warning to Mr. Otse’s counsel, Ademola Oyedoku Esq., to properly advise and guide his client. The judge also criticized the inadequacy of a motion filed by Mr. Otse’s legal team in an attempt to regularize a court process, deeming it incompetent.
The court has adjourned the case to Friday, August 16, 2024, at 12 PM, for a definite hearing of all applications.
In documents submitted to the court, Prophet Jeremiah’s legal team highlighted the extensive damage caused by the defamatory posts, stating that the content had been widely circulated among his family, church members, and friends, all of whom are active on social media. The plaintiff intends to present additional evidence of defamation during the trial.
This case continues to attract significant public attention as it underscores the challenges of navigating defamation and free speech in the age of social media.
