President Tinubu Is A Financial Wizard. Give Him Two More Years, And You’ll See What He Will Do With Nigeria — Comedian Gbenga Adeyinka
~3.2 mins read

Veteran comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka has declared his support for President Bola Tinubu, calling him the right person to steer the country towards prosperity.  Speaking on the Our 2 Kobo Podcast, Adeyinka highlighted Tinubu’s track record during his tenure as governor of Lagos state as proof of his capacity to address Nigeria’s economic challenges.

Adeyinka, who revealed that he is a card-carrying member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said he campaigned for Tinubu because he believes the president can fix the country’s problems. He stressed that if Tinubu is unable to resolve Nigeria’s issues, the nation may be in deeper trouble given his ‘’capacity and experience.’’

The comedian praised some of the policies implemented by the Tinubu administration, such as subsidy removal and local government autonomy, but noted that the government needs to be more frugal. Adeyinka also called for patience, saying Tinubu should be given at least two more years as the economic challenges facing Nigeria are not unique but global.

Adeyinka further stated that he previously campaigned for former President Muhammadu Buhari, believing that his military background would help transform the country, but he turned out as someone who “doesn’t know anything”.  He said;  “If I’m passionate about you, I’m passionate about you. That’s my problem. And I believe that, and please take this to the bank, if Asiwaju (Tinubu) cannot set Nigeria right, then we’re in trouble. With his capacity, with what he knows, with the fact that he has nothing to gain or lose anymore, if he cannot set Nigeria right, then we’re in trouble. I’m scared for Nigeria.

Even before the election, people were taking sides. Am I happy with the policies of the government? I s¥ffer too. People should not forget that I’m a Nigerian too. Now, am I happy with the policies of Asiwaju? Some yes, some no.

The man explained something. He said, we have two options. We go the way we are going. I’ll be attaked for this one, but I’ll say my mind. We go the way we have always gone. We keep borrowing money. We keep using our crude, for instance, I’m told has been used to borrow money. We can change that and have a better tomorrow. Or, we continue this way and everybody is happy, and your children s·ffer.

Do I believe he should have ended subsidy, although he was not even the one that ended the fuel subsidy thing. I support fuel subsidy removal totally because of the amount of corruption that was in it. Do I think they’ve done a good job by tightening their belts when we need to tighten our belts? No. I believe that those cars that were bought for members of the national assembly was an unnecessary oppression of the people, of the people who are s·ffering. What else have they done? I see a lot of restructuring taking place.

Local governments are to get their money directly. If you have a vibrant local government, you can build the country from bottom up, which is the way they do it abroad. Will governors allow the money get to the local government? Some governors have said no, nine or so.

If you get the local government right, it’s like getting a family right. Society will be better. Should people have gone on the streets to protest? There’s a fundamental right of protest. Should they have said the summit should be cancelled? No. Those are constitutional issues that should be dealt with constitutionally. I think what should have been done is to ask for a constitutional review. You can’t use illegality to remove someone legally elected.

There are some people who are professional politicians. That is their job. You now wake up and say you want to come and… they will not even give you ticket. With our current structure, it takes the grace of men for you to become president. That’s why when I see them Sowore, saying they want to be president, Fela Durotoye wants to be president, Peter Obi wants to be president, and there’s one very intelligent guy, Moghalu wants to be president… I think we need to get these young people into the house of reps, into the senate, to rewrite our laws.

If Peter Obi becomes president of Nigeria with the same structure we have in place, there’s nothing he’s going to do. Give Asiwaju two more years, that guy is a financial wizard. What is currently happening in Nigeria is universal.”

4 Things To Watch At Apple's 'It’s Glowtime' IPhone 16 Event Monday
~3.2 mins read

Apple's (AAPL) "It’s Glowtime" event is set to take place on Monday, with the company widely expected to unveil the iPhone 16 supercharged with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. Investors will also likely be watching for pricing and hardware differences in the new iPhone compared to previous models, and possible next-generation wearable products like AirPods and the Apple Watch.

AI-supercharged Siri is likely to be a key focus of the event, with Apple's announcement for "It’s Glowtime," displaying the company's logo in the style of the glowing aura of Apple's Siri interface.

Apple announced its newest operating system, iOS 18, and Apple Intelligence, at its developer conference in June, where the company said the intelligent system will help Siri understand more natural speech patterns, use personal context from on-device content, and accept typed prompts, among other AI-powered capabilities.

The iPhone maker has also announced a partnership with Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into iOS 18 later this year. Apple Intelligence is expected to roll out after the initial iOS 18 launch, but the company could demo some of the AI features to come at the event, showing investors how the iPhone maker is integrating the technology.

Apple is expected to release four models of the next-generation iPhone—the iPhone 16, the iPhone 16 Plus, the iPhone 16 Pro, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The new models, particularly the Pro models are expected to have significant upgrades to the device hardware including battery life and displays, as well as other features, Bernstein analysts indicated.

Improvements to battery life could be especially appealing to users as AI features require increased computing power. Morgan Stanley analysts said they "believe a strong battery upgrade can help to drive old device refreshes given battery life is one of the key reasons users historically upgrade an iPhone."

The base iPhone 16 models are expected to have similar designs and display sizes to the iPhone 15, while the Pro models are expected to be larger than their predecessors at 6.3 and 6.9 inches for the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, respectively, marking the first size upgrade in several years.

The new iPhones are expected to run on the A18 chip, the next generation of Apple's silicon chips, which will likely be designed to handle Apple Intelligence workloads.

The new device's camera will also likely be in focus with CFRA analysts expecting an ultra-wide 48-megapixel camera and potentially a shutter button for capturing photos.

The iPhone 16 models are expected to be priced like their iPhone 15 counterparts when they were launched, but analysts noted that AI capabilities could be a "wildcard" in pricing.

Analysts expect the iPhone 16 base model to start at $799 while the lowest storage option of the iPhone 16 Max could cost around $1,199, the same range as the iPhone 15 when it was released around the same time last year.

Morgan Stanley analysts said that while they don't expect Apple to raise iPhone prices from their levels last year, the possibility of a price increase still exists, though they view potential price hikes as "a net negative for Apple given it would likely drive some upgraders to extend the useful life of their iPhone for another year."

The iPhone maker could also unveil new additions to its wearable portfolio, with analysts expecting Apple to introduce upgraded versions of the AirPod Pro and AirPod Max with USB-C charging ports.

The company is also expected to overhaul its watch offerings with a new Apple Watch Series 10, an Apple Watch Ultra 3, and a third-gen Apple Watch SE. The new models are likely to feature bigger and thinner displays.

Apple shares have gained close to 15% since the start of the year, at $220.82 as of Friday's close.
