Two days ago Nigerians woke up to an unprecedented announcement made by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) on order of the Nigeria Federal Government.

The NCC had given telecommunications service providers two weeks to ensure that the National Identity Numbers (NIN) of customers issued by NIMC are linked to their registered SIMs.

The statement of NCC spokesperson Ike Adinde reads:

"​The submission of NIN by subscribers to take place within two weeks (from today December 16, 2020 and end by 30 December, 2020)."

"After the deadline, ALL SIMs without NINs are to be blocked from the networks."

He went ahead to state that service providers who fail to abide by the order should be ready to face stiff penalties.
