Labour Unions In The Country Are Planning To Go On Strike Over The Recent Increase In Price Of Petrol

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) are reportedly consulting civil society allies and relevant organs of labour towards the planned strike, The Guardian reported. Labour unions in the country have vowed to resist the recent increase in the price of petrol.  Ayuba Wabba, the president of NLC on Thursday, September 3, said both labour unions would soon deliberate on how to carry out the planned industrial action. He described the petrol price hike as an insensitive action on the part of the federal government, vowing that the labour unions wound resist the tariff increase. 
The TUC president, Quadri Olaleye in a statement also confirmed that the labour unions were planning on a strike.

He said it was wicked for the government to increase petroleum prices and electricity bills at the same time. Meanwhile, the federal government's increase in petrol price and the recent hike in electricity tariff have angered a lot of Nigerians. Groups, politicians and even local experts in the field of economics have decried the federal government's decision which has been described as both unfortunate and insensitive, Vanguard reported.
