The pensioners said that most of the state governors in the region have no regard for them.
Vanguard News reported that Waheed Oloyede, the Chairman, Southwest Zone of NUP while speaking in Lagos State, describe the attitude of some state governors to yield to the plight of the pensioners, while pleading with them to increase the payment of pensions in their states.

According to him, some of the pensioners were still receiving as low as N5,000 every month without an increase.

Oloyede said: “Whenever salaries of workers are increas, that of pensioners should also be increase every five years according to the Nigerian constitution.

The pensioners have now discovered that the federal government is fulfilling the promise, but the states government are not.
“The increase of pension payment was authorized by the federal government in 2019 and many states have not implement it. We are now using this meeting as an uportunity to plead with all the governors which have not implemented the increase in pension to do so without further delay,” Oloyede said.
