~2.0 mins read

The Federal Government has announced its plans to host the first-ever Nigeria International Airshow in the first quarter of 2025.

The Minister for Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, while making the revelation during a press conference in his office in Abuja on Thursday, said the airshow will be hosted in Lagos come April, 2025. Keyamo said the show will bring together visionaries, experts, and pioneers to unlock new opportunities in the aviation sector.

The minister also said all preparations in terms of space, facilities have been considered as the planning process had taken over one year now. According to him, “we expect this to happen in the first quarter of 2025 and in subsequent briefings, we will announce the exact dates. Today is just to reel out the vision and let the world know that we’re ready to roll on this massive programme and invite the world also to key into this great initiative.

“This will be the first time that an international airshow will hold in Nigeria. We all know about airshows all over the world. It brings together all stakeholders in the aviation industry and it is a place where people also cross-pollinate ideas too, very modern ideas regarding aviation. You can see in the introductory video there, some of the biggest names in aviation will come to Nigeria. They will be displaying their services, displaying their products. Also, it is intended to project Nigeria as the place where the next big things will happen in aviation, in Africa. We recognise our potential as a nation.”

Speaking on partners for the event, the minister said, “our partners in this venture is a proud Nigerian company too called Nigerian International Airshow. We are collaborating with them.

They are also driving the project with the blessing of the ministry, there are two key African policies that we also seek to promote by this and that is, one is the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA), which seeks to promote free trade within the African region, and also the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).

SAATM is that policy in Africa that seeks to promote a single African sky where there will be no restriction, within the African continent in terms of movements. “Our aspiration is clear: to position Nigeria as a central hub for aviation in Africa, one that will attract investment, foster partnerships, and drive sustainable development across the continent. This groundbreaking event is the first of its kind in our nation, and it signifies a bold step forward—a new era for Nigeria and African aviation,” the minister added.

Nhile assuring Nigerians of their readiness for the event, the chief executive officer of the Nigeria International Airshow, Bria Okonkwo Williams, said: “we hope to do Nigeria proud at the end of the show.”She also stated that between 150 to 200 companies are billed to participate in the event.

Workout Videos’ Scandal: Equatorial Guinea Sacks Baltasar Engonga As Finance Chief
~2.1 mins read

The government of Equatorial Guinea has dismissed its Director General of National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), Baltasar Ebang Engonga after over 400 s3x t3pes involving him and wives of prominent men in the country surfaced online.

It would be recalled that Baltasar was featured in a series of tapes making the rounds online having romantic affairs with his brother’s wife, the wife of the vice president, wife of the inspector general of police, amongst others.

The government said in a statement that, “According to Real Equatorial Guinea, the dismissal of Mr. Engonga, the son of Baltasar Engonga Edjo (current president of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa, CEMAC), was formalised in Decree No. 118/2024, dated November 4.

“The decree cited Mr. Engonga’s alleged misconduct in office and his family-related and social behavior as incompatible with public office.”

Reacting to the scandal, the First Lady of Equatorial Guinea, Mrs. Obiang, took to Facebook on Wednesday to call for immediate government action to protect the dignity of Equatoguinean women in the digital age. She stated that while progress has been made in gender equality, proactive measures were necessary, not only to address such incidents but to prevent them.

“It is essential to create a safe and respectful environment for all women,” she said. Similarly, Prime Minister Osa Nsue also acknowledged the damaging impact of the situation, particularly on the country’s public image and gender equality initiative“

“The Government of Equatorial Guinea, aware of the impact of social media and the growing presence of private content on digital platforms, is contemplating strengthening laws related to privacy and personal data protection to prevent further violations of citizens’ rights,” Nsue said.

He added that the case had sparked a broader discussion on the boundaries of privacy in the digital age, urging for a comprehensive approach involving legislation, education, and social awareness to curb the spread of inappropriate online content.

The country’s Vice President, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue has ordered the country’s telecommunications ministry, regulator, and mobile providers to take action against the viral distribution of p3n3graphic videos. He expressed that families should not be allowed to suffer due to the circulation of Engonga’s videos.

It would be recalled that the government also imposed restrictions on the sharing of multimedia files over mobile data on platforms like WhatsApp. Local news outlet Ahora EG, however, reported that citizens were frustrated by the new limitations, as they were forced to rely on Wi-Fi connections to share media.

Baltasar’s videos were believed to have been released while he was detained at Malabo’s notorious Black Beach prison for embezzling public funds. Equatorial Guinea’s chief prosecutor, Anatolio Nzang Nguema has assured that if medical tests confirmed that Engonga had a s3xually transmitted disease, he would be prosecuted for endangering public health.

Defence Headquarters Confirms The Emergence Of A New Terrorist Group, Lukarawas, In The Northwest
~1.1 mins read

The Defence Headquarters has confirmed the emergence of a new terrorists group known as ‘Lukarawas’, exacerbating insecurity in the northwestern part of Nigeria.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, made this known while briefing newsmen on the operations of the military on Thursday in Abuja.

Buba said that the new terr3r group emerged from the Republic of Niger after the coup that led to the breakdown of military cooperation between Nigeria and Niger. He said that the terrorists began incursion into northern parts of Sokoto and Kebbi States from the Niger Republic and Mali axis, particularly after the coup in Niger Republic.

According to him, before the coup, there were joint border operations with Nigerien security forces, which kept the terrorists at bay. “The t3rrorists took advantage of the gaps in cooperation between both countries and exploited difficult terrains to make incursions in remote areas in some North Western states to spread their ideology,” he said.

Buba said that the group was accommodated by the locals, who initially thought that the group meant well for them, adding that they failed to report the movement to the military and security agencies.

He gave assurance that troops had sustained intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) to degrade the terrorists. He added that the terror group had continued to take advantage of the vast under-governed areas to hide and evade troops as well as harass the locals. According to him, troops are locating them and eliminating the thr3at.
