Couple Accidentally Roll Into A River While ‘working Out’ In Their Car In The U.S.
~0.6 mins read

A yet-to-be identified couple “getting busy” in their car nearly ended in tragedy after their SUV rolled into a Philadelphia river in the middle of the night while they were in the backseat, New York Post reports.

Police told NBC10 that the lovebirds were having ‘prayers’ in a 2020 Range Rover near the Schuylkill River in Fairmount Park around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday when one of their limbs bumped into the SUV’s gear stick. Both the man and woman were unharmed in the incident, according to WCAU. The same could not be said for the waterlogged Range Rover.

Moments later, the Range Rover tumbled over the edge and sank into the water, about two miles from Philadelphia City Hall. The couple were considered lucky to have escaped safely from the sticky situation.

We’re Sorry We Didn’t Keep Our Promise, Maybe Next Time’ – Edo PDP Chairman Leaves Edo People Frustrated
~1.6 mins read

Edo PDP Chairman Admits Failure to Deliver Promised Road, Leaves Edo People Frustrated

In a startling admission, the Edo State PDP Chairman recently apologized to the people of Edo for failing to fulfill a major campaign promise: the construction of a critical road. During a public address, the Chairman openly stated, “We are sorry we didn’t do the road we promised, the next Governor will.” This statement has sparked widespread outrage among Edo residents, many of whom feel betrayed by the party’s unkept promises.

For years, Edo people have waited patiently, hoping to see the infrastructure improvements they were promised during election campaigns. The road in question was not just a minor project; it was a symbol of hope for better connectivity, economic growth, and overall development in the state. Instead, it has become a glaring reminder of what many are calling the government’s inability to deliver on its commitments.

The Chairman’s apology, rather than calming the situation, has only fueled public anger. “Are we going to keep voting for leaders who make promises and don’t fulfill them?” is the question on everyone’s lips. Edo people are increasingly vocal in their dissatisfaction, with many taking to social media to express their frustration.

Across various platforms, the message is clear: Edo people are saying “No” to unfulfilled promises. They demand accountability and a government that doesn’t just make promises but follows through with action. The Chairman’s suggestion that the next Governor might fulfill the promise has done little to reassure the public, who are tired of waiting for change that never comes.

As the election season approaches, this incident serves as a potent reminder to the people of Edo to vote wisely. The call for leaders who are not just talk, but who deliver tangible results, has never been louder. The question now is whether this outcry will translate into real change at the polls, or if the cycle of broken promises will continue. One thing is certain: Edo people are ready for a government that lives up to its word.

GE Vernova Stock Hits Record High Amid AI Power Demand Optimism
~1.2 mins read

GE Vernova (GEV) shares jumped Thursday to their all-time high after William Blair analyst Jed Dorsheimer initiated coverage of the power-generation equipment and services company with an "outperform" rating, citing the demand for energy to run artificial intelligence (AI) products.

Dorsheimer wrote in a note to clients Thursday that “the reality behind AI” is that natural gas and gas turbine power are “underappreciated.”

He added that renewable energy sources aren’t capable of producing the electricity needed to supply the grid for this burgeoning demand, and that natural gas is the “pragmatic” answer. He said his firm believes GE Vernova “is best positioned to benefit as the energy sector reverts back to pragmatism and quietly walks back from the 100% green idealism.”

Dorsheimer said that the natural gas turbines currently in use are aging, and because of the call for more electricity, power plants are running harder and past scheduled retirement. He argued that that fact benefits GE Vernova, whose service contracts for the machines act as recurring revenue.

Dorsheimer said in the research report that using two ways to analyze the valuation, GE Vernova’s share price should be $216.

Shares of GE Vernova, which was created in April when the old General Electric divided into three separate companies, gained 4% on Thursday to close at $191.36, after moving as high as $195.68 during the session.

Nigerian Man Arrested At Pakistan Airport With C+caine In His Stomach
~0.7 mins read

A Nigerian national faces drug smuggling charges after Anti-Narcotics Force’s (ANF) Lahore International Airport operation uncovered concealed cocaine capsules.

The suspect, who had flown into Pakistan from Nigeria via Dubai, was found with 38 c+caine-filled capsules hidden in his stomach, The Express Tribune reports. According to ANF spokesperson, a total of 608 grams of c+caine was recovered from the capsules.

This arrest underscores a worrisome and accelerating trend in transnational drug smuggling, with foreign nationals playing a significant role. Notably, Nigerian nationals have been disproportionately represented in these cases, with 10 individuals apprehended in 2023, and a remarkable 4.811 kilograms of contraband seized, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced international cooperation.

Thus far in the current year, law enforcement agencies have undertaken a series of rigorous operations, totaling seven, which have yielded significant results in the fight against narcotics trafficking. Specifically, these efforts have led to the successful apprehension of eight Nigerian individuals, accompanied by the substantial seizure of 11.420 kilograms of illicit substances.

S&P 500 Gains And Losses Today: Dollar General Stock Plummets After Earnings Miss
~2.1 mins read

Major U.S. equities indexes were mixed after a report showed that the U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) grew more than previously thought in the second quarter.

After trading higher for much of the session, the S&P 500 lost steam in the afternoon to close flat on the day. The Dow jumped 0.6% to print an all-time closing high for the third time this week, while a post-earnings decline from Nvidia (NVDA) shares weighed on the Nasdaq, which slipped 0.2%.

The top daily performance in the S&P 500 belonged to shares of Best Buy (BBY), which surged 14.1% after the electronics retailer reported better-than-expected revenue and net income for the second quarter. Although comparable store sales slipped year over year, Best Buy highlighted sales growth in tablets and computers in the quarter. The company said it expects "uneven" consumer behavior to remain yet still boosted its full-year profit forecast.

Medical device maker Cooper Companies (COO) also topped sales and profit forecasts with its quarterly results while increasing its annual outlook, and its shares jumped 11.8%. Cooper pointed to market share gains in contact lenses, where it expects strong demand to continue, as well as firmness in its fertility and surgical businesses.

Shares of West Pharmaceutical Service (WST), a maker of injectable pharmaceutical packaging and delivery systems, added 5.8% on Thursday. West Pharma shares plunged in late July after the company lowered its full-year sales and profit forecasts, citing lower demand for its products as biotech customers worked through existing inventories, but the stock has been trending higher since then.

Dollar General (DG) shares plummeted 32.2%, racking up the steepest loss of any S&P 500 stock. The discount retailer's stock plunged after its second-quarter sales and profits fell short of analysts' expectations. The company attributed its soft sales performance to financial constraints faced by its customers but highlighted initiatives to enhance the value and convenience of its stores. Shares of competitor Dollar Tree (DLTR) fell 10.2% on the day.

Shares of data storage provider NetApp (NTAP) sank 9.6% following the company's quarterly earnings release. Although sales and profits for the period exceeded forecasts, driven by strength in NetApp's all-flash memory arrays, the company noted continued headwinds related to customers limiting their spending on storage and other IT investments amid an uncertain macroeconomic environment.

Nvidia shares fell 6.4% on the day. Similar to NetApp, the AI chip giant reported better-than-expected results for the recent quarter, but a slowdown in the pace of growth raised questions about whether the stock can sustain its explosive trajectory.
